The Rev. Dr. Porter C. Taylor, Rector

A life-long Episcopalian, Porter was ordained to the priesthood in 2013. Before becoming Rector of St. David’s (August ’20), he served in diocesan leadership in California and at two church plants in California and Kansas.

Porter completed his PhD at the University of Aberdeen in the field of liturgical theology, a fancy term for the belief that the Church’s worship is the primary expression of her faith and theology. He is the editor of We Give our Thanks Unto Thee (Pickwick, 2019), the forthcoming Wiley Blackwell Companion to Liturgical Theology (2024), and the forthcoming A Reintroduction to Liturgical Theology (Wiley Blackwell, 2024).

While he will always have a foot in academia, Porter’s true vocation lies in the local parish where he can help equip God’s people for Kingdom ministry. He is especially energized by preaching, liturgy, leadership development, discipleship, accessible theology, and pastoral care.

Porter has been married to his college-sweetheart, Rebecca, for fifteen years, and together they have three sons, Jet (11), Case (9), and Ellis (8). Porter loves reading (both to himself and his boys), having date nights with Rebecca, cuddling their two cats, and taking every opportunity to talk about Manchester United.

You can find Porter on Facebook or Instagram.

The Rev. Carla D. Rhodes
Deacon

Deacon Carla was born and raised in the Episcopal Church. Most of her early memories involve the church. Born in Key West, she moved several times as a child but settled in Haines City before moving to Daytona Beach in the late 1950s.

She attended the University of Florida, but left in 1964 to get her "MRS degree" after meeting Billy. Deacon Carla and Billy have two children and five grandchildren. They lived in Titusville for 52 years where Carla served at St. Gabriels as parish administrator and organist and was very involved in Cursillo and Kairos. She was ordained to the diaconate in 2011 and was called to St. David's five years later.

Andrew Smith
Director of Music Ministries

Andrew has been around church music for as long as he can remember. Having grown up in a church choir at a small Catholic school in Lake Worth, FL (he eventually was his youth choir’s first ever student conductor!) and taking piano and saxophone lessons throughout, Andrew has volunteered at various different parish choirs since high school, both as a singer and as a conductor. He sang with the University of Central Florida University Singers during his undergraduate studies, finishing his undergrad with the equivalent of a music minor. However it wasn’t until he was called to be a choral scholar at St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church in Titusville in October of 2018 that he began to seriously involve himself in the ministry of sacred music. Joining St. David’s as the Director of Music Ministries in February 2022, Andrew looks forward to lending his musical gifts to St. David’s and the Space Coast community.

Aside from normal Sunday duties, Andrew has experience with being a substitute rehearsal accompanist for different choirs. He holds a triple-chapter membership in the American Guild of Organists: Space Coast, Central FL, and Palm Beach.

When not at the organ console, Andrew is a doctoral student of computer science at the University of Central Florida, currently focused in automated software testing. He continues to be an avid choral singer both at UCF - where he is President of the Chamber Singers - as well as other area choirs in Orlando. He also is a member of two semi-professional ensembles: VoxO and Voci del Cuore.

Rebecca Taylor
Director of Communications

Rebecca is a cradle Episcopalian and clergy kid (times two!) whose preferred role in the yearly Christmas pageant was "The Lord God." Spoiler alert: she never got the part.

Rebecca attended Converse College, a women's college in South Carolina, where she received a B.A. in Political Science. She has been married to her college-sweetheart, Porter, since 2008. Together they have three sons who fill their days with a hefty dose of dirt, laughter, and laundry.

Before joining St. David's, Rebecca served as the Director of Congregational Development at a church in Kansas City and worked in Communications and church development for a church plant in California. In addition to her role as Director of Communications for St. David's, she also serves as a Communications Consultant at Christ Episcopal Church in Suntree-Viera and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Ft. Pierce.

Vestry

In Episcopal churches, a group of parish-elected representatives serve in conjunction with the Rector as the church’s governing board. The role of the Vestry and its members is to support the vision and mission of St. David’s by the Sea, to lead in service and ministry, to ensure proper stewardship of the church’s resources, to engage in both short-term and long-term visionary planning, and to act as helpers to the Rector for the furtherance of the welfare of the church.

The following people serve on the current Vestry: Roxanne McCormac (Senior Warden), Jack Tracy (Junior Warden), Beverly Huff, Vicky Zawadzki, Louise Weaver, Mike Faughnan, Ross Amelio, Dorothy Wright-Sontag, and Nancy Abbott.
