Blessing of Icon and Iconographer at St. David's

by Rebecca Taylor

For the last 20 years, Jeanne Weaver, Artist in Residence for the St. David’s Institute, has been studying iconography and writing her own. Interestingly, icons are written and not painted because they represent scripture and prayer in visual form.

Pantocrator by Jeanne Weaver, Artist in Residence for the St. David’s Insitute

Jeanne recently completed a new icon, Pantocrator, which Fr. Porter blessed on Sunday, November 20, 2022 during the 10:15AM worship service. He also prayed a special prayer of blessing over Jeanne.

In January, Jeanne will be sharing her gift with the community as she leads a week-long iconography class for the St. David’s Institute. Jeanne will walk students through writing their own icon of St. George. The group will meet from 10:00AM - 12:00PM, take a lunch break, and reconvene from 1:00 - 3:00PM each day. Supplies will be provided and the registration fee is $75 per person. All skill levels are welcome and encouraged to attend. The course begins on Monday, January 16th and concludes on Friday, January 20th. For more information or to register, visit this link. We hope you will join us for this course!
